Carillo Street Steam Plant
JSA worked in conjunction with The University of Pittsburgh, Woolpert/ZBA, and Tedco on this project. We provided architectural planning and design services for the Carillo Street Steam Plant. We worked through the construction document phase with ZBA and then with Tedco to actually build the plant. This is an infill building, designed in conjunction with Trees Hall. The brick masonry matrix was carefully selected to match the existing facility. Precast was used for the pilasters and the parapet to echo the feel of Trees Hall. Lofty stacks dominate the building and the site and kalwall panels provide natural illumination reminiscent of early 20th century factories and plants.
